Mon 29-Mar-10 AM

Simon was very stable through the night.  This morning his sedation was
discontinued briefly, and he got quite active, moving, etc.  He was able
to follow a couple of simple commands and open one eye (the other is too
swollen!!), and nearly pulled out his endotracheal tube.  So, the plan
is to try to wean him off the mechanical ventilator and get the
endotracheal tube out, in other words, get him breathing on his own.
Hopefully that will happen sometime today.

So, overall, mostly positive and no negatives to report this morning.

  1. Ann, We're constantly thinking of Simon and sending all of the good juju we possibly can. I can't wait to see the message that says he's off of the ventilator and exhibiting that great Aussie humor. Maybe that will be today's news. Of course, we are thinking of you too and of all your long hours at the hospital. He's so fortunate to have such a good Mate in life. Ryan is more than willing to join the garden team, which says how much he admires Simon, because we can't get him to do anything around our house! Heska is just up the street from the hospitaland I'm there all day M-Th, so please let me know if there is any errand I can do for you. At least you don't have to deal with bad hospital food and a dreary cafeteria. MRC has such a great one that sometimes my work buddies and I go there for lunch-it's cheap too. You both have so many well wishers, that I'm sure you have plenty of support, and I agree that much of that will be needed down the road. Please remember that we are only a phone call away (218-3421, 222-7763)Lots of Love and healing thoughts are coming your way. Liz, Dave and Ryan
